OUR STORY

Built on the golden ratio

Oria takes its name from 1.618 — the golden ratio — because proportion and harmony are the basis of everything we do: in the vines, in the wine, in the community.

THE ORIGIN

A meeting between two worlds

Oria was born in 2023 from a conversation between two people who shared a conviction: that the best wine in the world was already being made, in a landscape of extraordinary beauty — and that it belonged to the world, not just to those lucky enough to already own Italian land.

Roberto Cipresso, one of Italy's most celebrated winemakers, had spent decades working the great estates of Tuscany — Sassicaia, Masseto, Tignanello — learning that what truly makes a wine extraordinary is the land, and specifically the relationship between human hands and a particular piece of earth.

Martín Iglesias, a serial entrepreneur from Buenos Aires who had fallen in love with Val d'Orcia on a trip that changed his life, arrived with the conviction that this access could be democratised — that technology, legal structure, and community could make it possible for someone in Tokyo, London, São Paulo, or New York to own real Tuscan land and receive its wine.

Together they built ORIA 1.618. The name comes from the golden ratio, the mathematical principle of natural proportion that governs everything from nautilus shells to the spacing between vine rows. It guides our approach to wine, to architecture, to the relationship between owner and land.
